Expounding The Commandments Pt. 3
Guide #3: Expounding Commandments 1-3
This guide is going to break down the 10 Commandments. Before we get into the heart of things we must first, cover the basics. So we must elaborate on the 10 Commandments that make up the 2 Great Commandments the rest of the Torah and the Prophets hang off of. To love Yahuah and love your neighbor. We are first going to begin by laying out what the 10 Commandments are. Then we are going to go over each Commandment one by one and learn just exactly how we obey these Commands to the Most High's standard. I want to start this by saying two things before we truly begin. One, is none of us are ever going to be 100% perfect. There will be times we may stumble along the way. But, the point is to not give up. To keep striving for righteousness. And number two, is Messiah is our example. We are supposed to be like him. Mimic him, and when we receive the Ruach Ha'Qodesh it helps us do this.
Let's establish the Commandments now.
(Exodus 20:1-17) "AND Elohiym spoke את all these words, saying, I am Yahuah Elohayka, which have brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other elohiym before me.
You shall not make unto you any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I Yahuah Elohayka am a jealous El, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and guard my commandments.
You shall not take the name of Yahuah Elohayka in vain; for Yahuah will not hold him guiltless את that takes his name in vain.
Remember the day of the Shabbath, to keep it holy. Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: But the seventh day is the Shabbath of Yahuah Elohayka: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: For in six days Yahuah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Yahuah blessed the day of Shabbath, and hallowed it.
Honor your father and your mother: that your days may be long upon the land which Yahuah Elohayka gives you.
You shall not kill.
You shall not break wedlock.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not lust after your neighbor's house, you shall not lust after your neighbor's woman, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is your neighbor's." SHEMOTH (EXODUS) 20:1-17 את CEPHER
So let's begin with the first commandment. We shall not have any other elohiym before YaHUaH. We are to love YaHUaH, with all our heart, mind, and soul. Let's read a couple more lines.
(Exodus 20:19-22) "And they said unto Mosheh, Speak with us, and we will hear: but let not Elohiym speak with us, lest we die. And Mosheh said unto the people, Fear not: for elohiym is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. And the people stood afar off, and Mosheh drew near unto the thick darkness where Elohiym was. And Yahuah said unto Mosheh, Thus you shall say unto the children of Yashar'el, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven." SHEMOTH (EXODUS) 20:19-22 את CEPHER.
They told Moses that they didn't want to talk to YaHUaH, they wanted Moses to speak to them. They were scared if they spoke to YaHUaH they would die. And Moses said don't fear! Your statutes made of gold and wood will come save you. They'll prove themselves. Mocking them because they worshipped images. Fear him, that ye sin not! The first four Commandments teach us how to love YaHUaH with all our heart, mind, and soul. And we'll circle back to that!
The second Commandment. Idolatry. To not worship any graven images. Do not consider them elohyim. Let's read some more from Exodus again.
(Exodus 20:24-26) "Ye shall not make with me elohai of silver, neither shall ye make unto you elohai of gold. An altar of earth you shall make unto me, and shall sacrifice thereon your ascending smoke offerings, and your peace offerings, your sheep, and your oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto you, and I will bless you. And if you will make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stone: for if you lift up your tool upon it, you have polluted it. Neither shall you go up by steps unto my altar, that your nakedness be not discovered thereon." SHEMOTH (EXODUS) 20:23-26 את CEPHER.
No statues, made of silver or gold. Do not think your graven images are elohai (gods). YaHUaH told the children that when they make an altar for him to make it out of stone and absolutely do not use any tools on it. No sculpting, no designing, no drawing images on it. Doing so pollutes it and renders it useless. Do not imitate the heathen! Neither could they go up the steps of the altar. This specific place is referred to as the holy of holies. This is where the priest would go to make atonement for the people. This is also the place where YaHUaH commonly spoke to Moses and Aaron. And he told the people you are not to go here. So their nakedness isn't discovered. Their iniquity. Quickly let's see some other scriptures on Idols and graven images.
(Leviticus 19:4) "Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten elohiym: I am Yahuah Elohaykem." VAYIQRA (LEVITICUS) 19:4 את CEPHER.
And then again in (Leviticus 26:1) "YE shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am Yahuah Elohaykem." VAYIQRA (LEVITICUS) 26:1 את CEPHER.
(Jubilees 22:22) "And as for all the worshippers of idols and the profane: there shall be no hope for them in the land of the living; and there shall be no remembrance of them on the earth; for they shall descend into She'ol; and into the place of condemnation shall they go. As the children of Cedom were taken away from the earth, so will all those who worship idols be taken away." YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 22:22 את CEPHER.
(Jubilees 36:5) "And concerning the question of idols, I command and admonish you to reject them and hate them, and love them not, for they are full of deception for those that worship them and for those that bow down to them." YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 36:5 את CEPHER
& (Jubilees 48:5) "And Yahuah executed a great vengeance on them for Yashar'el's sake, and smote them through the plagues of blood and frogs, lice and dog flies, and malignant boils breaking forth in blains; and their cattle by death; and by hailstones, thereby he destroyed everything that grew for them; and by locusts which devoured the remnant which had been left by the hail, and by darkness; and by the death of the firstborn of men and animals, and on all their idols Yahuah took vengeance and burned them with fire." YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 48:5 את CEPHER. Sounds like the death that's coming to this earth in Revelation at all?
Alright, Commandment #3. Do not take YaHUaH's in vain or some versions say do not bring his name to nought, or nothingness. What does this mean? Let's get a deeper look at this commandment and let the scriptures tell us. Beginning with the Torah. The commandment is first give in Exodus but, we can read about it in Deuteronomy as well.
(Deuteronomy 5:11) "You shall not take the name of Yahuah Elohayka in vain: את for Yahuah will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain." DEVARIYM (DEUTERONOMY) 5:11 את CEPHER
Let's learn YaHUaH's definition of vain. It's important we take Yahuah's definition and not our own, or man's definition. Because at the end of the day it's YaHUaH's definition that matters. If we keep reading the book of Deuteronomy we learn that doing his Torah is not vain. Abiding by the Commansments is not vain. But it is our life!
(Deuteronomy 32:46-47) "And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to guard to do, all the words of this Torah. For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over the Yardan to possess it." DEVARIYM (DEUTERONOMY) 32:46-47 את CEPHER. Now I want to pull from the book of Enoch and the book of Jasher. I personally have found much Truth in these books and do consider them scripture. Both books were included in the 1611 KJV.
(Enoch 59:5-6) "But when the time shall come, then the power, the punishment, and the judgment; which Yahuah Tseva'oth has prepared for those who prostrate themselves to the judgment of righteousness, for those who abjure that judgment, and for those who take his name in vain. That day has been prepared for the elect as a covenant; and for sinners as an inquisition." CHANOK (ENOCH) 59:5-6 את CEPHER
The book of Enoch can easily be called the first book of prophecy ever written. Enoch knew the Revelation before John did. And even John didn't know it all. No one has seen the end or the prophesies the way Enoch has. When the time of Judgement and punishment comes, YaHUaH has prepared this time for the double minded, double hearted people. For those who proclaim to be righteous but, abhor true judgement. AND for those who take his name in vain. That day is Prepared for his elect as a covenant. The Renewed Covenant. And to the sinners it will be a day of inquisition. An inquisition they will not survive. His name is taken in vain every day. Brought to nothingness. Everytime he's called Lord, or God. Those are titles not names. (If You're New To Qodesh Names Please See The Names Guide Before Continuing.) However, we do not condemn for lack of knowledge here. There is nothing wrong with using these names before you came into the knowledge of the Truth. But, upon learning the Truth, don't you want to address our Father, and our Brother, Yahusha by their proper names? Would you like someone constantly calling you the wrong name on purpose? YaHUaH's name was removed about 7000 times from the scriptures. And replaced with the titles Lord and God. Hiding his true identity. This was an error on our elders part. And has caused great confusion and conflict in the centuries since. His true name being restored is a huge sign of the times being upon us. He told us his name would be forgotten by our elders. As his name being restored also is found among the end times prophesies.
(Jeremiah 23:26-27) "How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Ba`al." YIRMEYAHU (JEREMIAH) 23:26-27 את CEPHER
Let's continue in Enoch. (Enoch 62:5-6) "In that day shall all the kings, the princes, the exalted, and those who possess the earth, stand up, behold, and perceive, that he is sitting on the throne of his glory; that before him the qodeshiym shall be judged in righteousness; And that nothing, which shall be spoken before him, shall be in vain." CHANOK (ENOCH) 62:5-6 את CEPHER. We learn that speaking in vain, is just as bad as taking his name in vain. Speaking a vain thing, and using his name to justify it. That is sin. Saying that the Most High spoke to you when he didn't.
(Jasher 63:24) "O Yahuah Elohiym of Avraham and Yitschaq my ancestors, this day I know that you are the true Elohiym, and all the elohiym of the nations are vain and useless." YASHAR (JASHER) 63:24 את CEPHER. Now let's move into what the Prophets said.
Beginning in Samuel. (1 Samuel 12:20-21) "And Shemu'el said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done את all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following Yahuah, but serve Yahuah with all your heart; And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain." SHEMU'EL RI'SHON (1 SAMUEL) 12:20-21 את CEPHER.
This next one is deeply unnerving for those still trapped in the world. Now, if we take the understanding and dogma that has been passed down to us, and just disregard that for a moment, and read these verses, you tell me what it sounds like he's talking about to you.
(Jeremiah 10:2-5) "Thus says Yahuah, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good." YIRMEYAHU (JEREMIAH) 10:2-5 את CEPHER.
You tell me, is he not talking about a Christmas tree? Fun Fact. Evergreen or "Christmas" tree worship can be dated back to Babylon all the way to 2167 BCE. Possibly even before that. A winter solstice festival. To bring the sun back. Nimrod was said to leave gifts under the tree on his birthday. And his birthday is...you guessed it! December 25th! The Ancient Egyptian's also did this. They decorated Conifers and Palms in honor of Ra. On the 21st of December. The beginning of the winter solstice. But, I digress. I will make a guide diving deeper on these things. This next one our Messiah quotes directly when rebuking the Pharisee's for their man made traditions.
(Isaiah 29:13) "Wherefore Adonai said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men." YESHA'YAHU (ISAIAH) 29:13 את CEPHER. We can see our Messiah quote this twice in the Gospel's when he was rebuking the Pharisee's for their handwashing ritual.
(Matthew 15:2-9) "Why do your Talmidiym transgress את the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of Elohiym by your tradition? For Elohiym commanded, saying, Honor your father and your mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever you might be profited by me; And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of Elohiym of no effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Yesha`yahu prophesy of you, saying, This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth, and honors me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." MATTITHYAHU (MATTHEW) 15:2-9 את CEPHER.
And again in (Mark 7:5-13) "Then the Parashiym and scribes asked him, Why walk not your Talmidiym according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? He answered and said unto them, Well has Yesha`yahu prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of Elohiym, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of Elohiym, that ye may guard your own tradition. For Mosheh said, Honor your father and your mother; and, Whoso curses father or mother, let him die the death." MARQUS (MARK) 7:5-10 את CEPHER. Circling back now to the writings. Let's see what they say.
(Psalms 119:113) "ס CAMEK - I hate vain thoughts: but your Torah do I love." TEHILLIYM (PSALMS) 119:113 את CEPHER.
(Psalms 139:19-20) "Surely you will slay the wicked, O Eloah: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. For they speak against you wickedly, and your enemies take your name in vain." TEHILLIYM (PSALMS) 139:19-20 את CEPHER.
(Proverbs 30:8-9) "Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny you, and say, Who is Yahuah? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my Elohiym in vain." MISHLEI (PROVERBS) 30:8-9 את CEPHER.
Remove me from vanity and lies. Which go hand and hand with one another. Don't give me poverty or riches. He's saying he doesn't want a portion in this life. He just wants to pass through and recieve his portion in what is to come. Feed me with food that is convenient for me. With what I need to get by. Nothing extravagant. Unless you become full and greedy and forget Yahuah. Puffed up by your vain, material things. Which is all a transgression. Or unless you become poor and steal. Which is also transgression. And take the name of YaHUaH in vain. They blame YaHUaH for their misfortunes. So transgression of the Torah is also taking his name in vain. Bringing his name to nothing and his Law to no effect.
(Wisdom of Solomon 13:1-2) "SURELY vain are all men by nature, who are ignorant of Elohiym, and could not out of the good things that are seen know him that is: neither by considering the works did they acknowledge the workmaster; But deemed either fire, or wind, or the swift air, or the circle of the stars, or the violent water, or the lights of heaven, to be the elohiym which govern the world." CHOKMAH SHALOMAH (WISDOM OF SOLOMON) 13:1-2 את CEPHER.
Our fathers before us and our teachers before us erred. And instead of seeking the knowledge and wisdom of Yahuah, knowing that it was he who created everything, they deemed the earth and wind and fire to be elohiym (false gods). And lastly let's check out a couple things the Apostles said.
(Galatians 2:16-21) "But knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law, but by faith in Yahusha Ha'Mashiach, as we have believed in Yahusha Ha'Mashiach, that we might be justified by the faith in Mashiach, and not by the works of Law: for by the works of Law shall no flesh be justified. But if, while we seek to be justified by Mashiach, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Mashiach the minister of sin? Never. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the Law am dead to the Law, that I might live unto Elohiym. I am crucified with Mashiach: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Mashiach lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith in the Son of Elohiym, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of Elohiym: for if justification came by the Law, then Mashiach died in vain." GALATIYM (GALATIANS) 2:16-21 את CEPHER.
A LOT of people use this verse here, in vain. To justify themselves living in sin. Mostly because they fail to include verses 16 and 17. Paul was absolutely not saying we have a free pass to live in sin. Quite the contrary. Let's look. Man isn't justified by his works of the Law but, by faith in Mashiach. Faith in Hebrew is an action. Like being faithful to your husband. Upholding your vows. Hearing and doing. So because we desire to be like our Messiah, he will send us the Father's Set Apart Spirit. The Ruach Ha'Qodesh. And THAT is what causes us to gaurd his Commandments. Not by trying to do the works yourself. The Ruach does the works. You'll never be justified without the help of Messiah, YaHUsHa. Is Messiah the minister of sin? Never. Paul tells us right here, you can't do it without Messiah. "If I build again the things I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor." Because we don't fix what is destroyed. YaHUaH fixes what is destroyed. It is vanity when we try to do it for him. For through the Law he is dead to the Law, so that he might live to Elohiym. Meaning he will die for the Law so he may live and see Elohiym. We must crucify ourselves. Spiritually. Kill our old, sinful, worldly, selves. And allow Messiah to dwell within us. To live by faith IN the Son of Elohiym. Do not frustrate the grace of YaHUaH by trying to do it yourself. By doing it in vain. We can't do it without him. If we could do it without his help the Messiah died for nothing. We'd be perfect by now.
(1 Corinthians 15:55-58) "O death, where is your sting? O She'ol, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the Torah. But thanks be to Elohiym, which gives us the victory through our Adonai Yahusha Ha'Mashiach. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of Yahuah, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in Yahuah." QORINTIYM RI'SHON (1 CORINTHIANS) 15:55-58 את CEPHER.
The sting of death IS sin. But the STRENGTH of sin IS the Torah. Thanks and praise to Elohiym who gave us a victory through YaHUsHa Ha'Mashiach. Be steadfast, unmoveable, and always abounding in the work of YaHUaH. Paul just gave us literally the textbook Hebrew definition of the word faith. For you know that YOUR labor is vain to YaHUaH.
And lastly, (Colssians 2:8-11) "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Mashiach). For in him dwells all the fulness of Elohiym bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Mashiach.") QOLASIYM (COLOSSIANS) 2:8-11 את CEPHER.
Beware unless any man spoils you with deceit and vanity after the TRADITION OF MEN, and THE RUDIMENTS OF THE WORLD, and NOT after Messiah. For in Messiah dwells the fullness of Elohiym. The fullness of YaHUaH's Set-Apart Spirit dwells within his Son. Who is the head of principality and power. In whom we are circumcised. A circumcision made without hands. A spiritual circumcision of the heart. Putting off the body of the sins and of the flesh and putting on the body of righteousness and spiritual.
