Where To Begin Pt. 2

Guide #2: Faith, What Is It?

Now that we have dealt with repentance and the nature of repentance. It's time to move on to Faith. What is Faith? In Hebrew the word for faith is Emunah. In Western culture we've been taught that faith is just a belief. To have faith in Yahuah, in western culture, is to simply just acknowledge that he exists and that he will fulfill his promises. But in Hebrew, where we first learn of this word, takes on a much different meaning.

Strongs Hebrew #530; Emunah - To be firm or steadfast. To be faithful or deal honestly. To show responsibility. To be steady, trustful, and truthful.

Emunah is a noun but, when we look at the root word for it we can get an even clearer definition. A lot of Hebrew words are like this. If we look at the root word of any word we are studying we can always get a better definition and understand the context better. The root word for Emunah is Aman. Aman is a verb, which we know is an action. Let's look at this word.

Strongs Hebrew #539; Aman - To confirm and support. To believe, to endure, to confirm, or establish. To be faithful and firm. To fulfill. To have assurance and put your trust. To be relaibe and sure. To be trustworthy. And to verify.

So as we can see to have faith is an action. It is an outward demonstration of your love towards Yahuah and your love towards your neighbor. How do we demonstrate our faith? By upholding Yahuah's Torah of course! His Torah, his testimony, shows us how to love him with all our heart, mind, and soul, and how to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. His laws aren't impossible or burdensome. And we'll get to that on the next section of this guide.
